The parish church, which is dedicated to St. James the Elder, is well worth a visit. A church in Nestelbach near Graz was mentioned as early as the 9th century and later became widely known as a place of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary. In memory of the image of the Virgin Mary found in the nettles, the village was given the name Nezilinpach, which later became Nestelbach. Today's church with its high altar from the 18th century, the old picture “Maria Schutz”, the wonderful pulpit and the organ by Konrad Hopfwieser (1909) is definitely worth a visit.
The numerous wayside shrines, wayside crosses and chapels in the municipality of Nestelbach bei Graz are steeped in history and many stories.
Johann Joseph Fux, the most important Austrian Baroque composer and court conductor to the Emperor, was born in Langegg, part of the municipality of Nestelbach bei Graz. A memorial plaque commemorates the composer. The Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory in Graz also bears his name.
